...On negative self-talk and self love:
How to be your own BFF.
Meant-to-Mentor Segment: Music Motivation

This is a special song written by my favorite composer, David Friedman! "Help is On the Way" is a song about inspiration and perseverance. Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope in ways we may not expect, if we are just willing to open ourselves to the possibilities.

Love always,
Terri

Q: How do I navigate my post-graduate life without access to the career that I have been preparing for for the last four years, and without the opportunity for closure in my college experience?
A: I invite you to try on the following strategies:

1. ACCEPTANCE
Here is something that I learned when my children were practicing Martial Arts…
Never resist a punch. One of the core principles is that instead of resisting, you should accept it and go towards the energy of the punch. Resisting a difficult situation that we are unable to control takes more energy than accepting it. The punch hurts more when we try to fight against it.
2. SURRENDER
We cannot control this pandemic, but if we don’t give ourselves permission to surrender to it, we will never give ourselves permission to succeed. Here is where we recognize that certain situations in life are done for us not to us. We need to allow them in and experience them as opportunities for growth. Forgiveness is required here. You are not the victim. Remember the horse and how you were halted? Grab the reins now and take your power and control back.
3. RESILIENCE
How about we take this time to invest in your own personal development? In fact, maybe instead of submitting your resumé to every job opening you find, take this time to build your “personal resumé” and act as if you are working towards a graduate degree in personal growth with concentrations in acceptance, surrender and resilience. These are the important life skills that you will be hired for in one form or another every day for the rest of your life. Do the job that you may have now to support yourself and save money, but take your passion towards your ultimate career goal and turn it within. Maybe take a few hours each day to be in self-awareness and work on you. Visualize your goal and work towards it in some way every day. Create a vision board with images of, and positive messages to, your future self. Cast yourself in the role of your future self who has accomplished your goal, and rehearse for it everyday. You may not have the opportunity to see your professors and some of your friends from college at this time and that is sad, BUT wherever you go for the rest of your life, you take yourself with you (I credit my amazing wisdom-filled Mom for that one who taught me this when I was a young girl!). When the time comes when career opportunities open up again (and they will!), you will be ready to go out in the world with confidence and grit.
One last thought to leave you with from one of my favorite master coaches, Jody Moore…
“The GPS never asks where you’ve been. It only cares about where you are and where you want to go.”
Love always,
Terri
Meant-to-Mentor Segment: Music Motivation
The song for this segment of my Meant-to-Mentor Music Motivation series is “Not While I'm Around” written by Stephen Sondheim. I've always loved this song, and recently saw Sweeney Todd on Broadway, which inspired me to record this for my Meant-to-Mentor Music Motivation series. It is a powerful and comforting message of protection and reassurance. The lyrics convey the message of unwavering support and my promise to guide you through life's challenges.

Meant-to-Mentor Segment
Q: “How do I deal with the negative feelings associated with this pandemic and lack of motivation towards my future?”
A: One thing I do know is that we cannot control the circumstances that exist around us. What we can control is the way in which we respond to them. Try to be open to believing that amazing things can happen for you if you invite them in. What we think about our future is what we create, and we can naturally create abundance by taking control of our thoughts. When negative thoughts come into your brain, do your best to replace them with hopeful and positive messages. This is how we put ourselves in a positive mindset on purpose.
Your brain will believe what you tell it, and challenging your internal dialogue has a physiological component as well. You will feel it trigger emotions in your body, and your outlook will begin to change.
Tell yourself, “I am worthy”, “I am blessed”, “I am strong”, “I am healthy”, “I am talented”, etc. What follows the two words “I AM” is what we bring into our lives.
Make an effort to acknowledge three things that you are grateful for each morning. Fill yourself up for the day. Try to override the worry, and be the eagle who continues to rise above.
It takes the same amount of energy to worry than to believe in the possibilities ahead for you: “Worry is a waste of your imagination” -Walt Disney.
Yes, COVID is frightening and tragic in many ways~ but amid this chaos, there is beauty. I promise.
The choice is ours, we can be the victim in this story or the victor! There are enough forces and situations that are against us in life. The worst thing we can do is be against ourselves. Love and protect yourself as you would someone else that you love dearly. Have your own back.
Love always, Terri

For this particular segment, I did not speak off the cuff or attempt to memorize my content. I carefully prepared the message and wanted to communicate it word for word. The lyrics to the song I referenced are below.

"Only Love" by Jordan Smith
How much more are we gonna take?
How many nights do we have to lie awake?
How many tears are we gonna cry?
We can wish until the well runs dry
But what happens when the sky above
Runs out of every single shooting star?
And what if every good intention's only meant
To go so far?
Only love, only love can save us now
Keep the world from burning down, down, down
To the ground, ground, ground
Only love can look inside a human heart
And see us for who we are
And who we are would be enough If only there was only love
Only love, only love
Only love
How many lessons have we really learned?
How many bridges could we cross instead of burn?
Why do we find it hard to forgive?
We're so blinded that it's easy to forget
Only love, only love can save us now Keep the world from burning down, down, down
To the ground, ground, ground
Only love can look inside a human heart
And see us for who we are
And who we are would be enough
If only there was only love
Only love, only love
Only love, only love
Only love, only love
So what happens when the sky above
Runs out of every single shooting star
And what if every good intention's only meant
To go so far
Only love, only love can save us now
Keep the world from burning down, down, down
To the ground, ground, ground
Only love can look inside a human heart
And see us for who we are
And who we are would be enough If only there was only love
Meant-to-Mentor Segment: Music Motivation
In addition to being a life coach, I am a singer and music teacher. I have always been drawn to songs that have empowering messages and meaningful content.
I’ve decided to add to my “Meant-to-Mentor” series by singing and recording some of these powerful songs.
The first song in this series is “If I Had My Way” by Frank Wildhorn. I felt compelled to post this as we near the end of 2020 and bring in a new year. We have all gone through a great deal this year, some more than others. The lyrics of this song apply to us all and the lessons we have learned in order to move forward with resilience, gratitude, strength and hope.
Love always,
Terri
Meant-to-Mentor Segment: Music Motivation

Time goes by so very fast. Never miss an opportunity to show people you love how much they mean to you.
Life is a precious gift, and we live on borrowed time. Please seize your moments.
Love always, Terri

She speaks of feeling stuck and overwhelmed initially and how her work with Terri identified and overcame the obstacles and emotional blockages that were preventing her from moving forward with confidence. She then discusses the steps taken with Terri to accomplish all of the goals and decision making involved. Ultimately, she is now feeling joyful, motivated, excited, and connected to her best self as she enters her freshman year at her dream school!
